Loving this past Saturday morning’s breakfast with the men of JTV.  Good food, good fellowship, good God.  I spoke on the subject, “The Origin of Man”.  Here are some of the notes:

The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Genesis 2:7

The LORD God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’ Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. Genesis 2:18-19

So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib He had taken out of the man, and He brought her to the man. Genesis 2:20-22

  • God made man first.

Don’t worry ladies, that doesn’t make us any better or more valuable, it just makes us different.  We have different roles and goals as men and God has given us different responsibilities.

  • Man ordered his world with God before woman was created.

One of the biggest temptations for men is this:  ”I can do it on my own.”

  • Man was sleeping when relationship began.

Sorry ladies, we were asleep when God created you and we obviously missed out on some things so please be patient.  Men, you need to wake yourself up to your wife’s needs.  Being asleep when she was made doesn’t give you an excuse, it just means you need to do some catching up.

  • The Origin of Man is Leadership

In the beginning, God created man to work, have dominion, take care of the garden, order his world, name the animals.  All in all, God made man to be the primary leader on planet earth.  This is our design, it is in our DNA.

Many times, the leader is not the smartest, most talented or the strongest;  he is simply the one with the most courage.

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Genesis 3:6

  • The first sin of man was passivity.

We were given the gift and responsibility of leadership but in the most crucial moment we dropped the ball.  Instead of leading his wife, Adam stood by and did nothing.  But let me give you some encouragement:  IN CHRIST, WE GET IT BACK.  The Bible clearly challenges us to take up the responsibility of leadership in the areas of our marriage, children and our church.  Remember:  THERE IS A LEADER INSIDE OF YOU.  You don’t have to wonder anymore, you can just know that it’s in you by God’s design.

A few weeks ago the JTV team went and did a little photo shoot with a friend of Pastor D’Andre’s.  The photo shoot went great and we all had alot of fun.  We just today updated our website pictures which you can check out under the ABOUT US portion of the website.  Here are a few of the pics that unfortunately DID NOT make the cut.  For your viewing pleasure…

This week we kicked off a brand new series entitled CONTROVERSY and in the opening message covered the issue of abortion.  After service, I ended up talking to a very sweet woman from our church and she said that she almost didn’t come because controversial subjects stress her out.  She did say that I did a great job of opening up the scriptures in a very clear but loving way.  At the time I thought that was funny that a person would get stressed out.  But here’s the deal – the more I got to thinking about the message and the next week to come, I started to get stressed.  I started wondering if I had bit off more than I could chew.  I began to wonder, why God put this on my heart?  Couldn’t I get something easier like… 5 Steps to Living in the Blessing or Walking in Victory?  How did I end up with abortion, gay marriage and relativism.  None the less, here we are.  If you missed this past week, go grab the podcast or you can pick up a free CD this Sunday.  Don’t miss this upcoming week as we continue to get CONTROVERSIAL.

Here is a music video based on John Piper’s new book “Don’t Waste Your Life”. I’m not even a big fan of rap music but loved this song. I dig the way Lacrae uses so much scripture in his lyrics. Enjoy.

I just want to say that I was blown away from the respoone to the opening of THRIVE.  It seemed like one of those timely messages that people were needing to hear.  I’m just glad I got to be apart of it.  It is an amazing thing to have the Holy Spirit use you to speak life and encouragement to God’s people.  The cool part is that you don’t have to be a pastor to have that experience.  The reality is that the Holy Spirit wants to speak through you as well.  I want to encourage you to be open to the Holy Spirit’s leading and look for the divine moment to help other people.  With all that said, here are some notes from last weeks message.

  • Last year, Warren Buffett lost 11 Billion dollars.  At least we didn’t lose as much money as he did.
  • Over 2 million jobs were lost last year, there is no doubt the our country is facing a down season.
  • In Numbers 13, Moses sent spies in to check out the PROMISE LAND
  • Christianity is built on promises.  There are 100’s of promises throughout scripture, waiting to be inherited.
  • For every promise, your enemy has created problems.
  • Remember, there were no giants in the desert.  The enemy is not trying to keep you from mediocrity, he is trying to keep you from God’s abundant life.
  • Big problems require big faith.
  • Joshua and Caleb were the only guys who had any faith in God.
  • In Numbers 14:24, it says that Caleb was of a different spirit.
  • The tough question to ask is which spirit will I have when facing adverse situations.
  • The wrong spirit was that of complaining, doubt, fear and worry.
  • Joshua said in Numbers 13:9 that Israel could eat those giants for lunch.
  • We need to remember that God wants us to not just survive, but to THRIVE.

Make sure to be here this Sunday as we look at how to Release the Faith that is within us.  See you then.

Hey Guys,Here is a video preview of what we will be showing this Sunday for our upcoming series ‘American Jesus’. We hope you love it!!!

This last week, I shared with you the 7 baskets of life and how all of life can fit into one of those baskets.  With every basket, I try and ask myself a few penetrating questions to see if I’m on point or if that area is struggling.  Here goes the first 2 baskets…

Am I still in love with my wife?

Am I having focused, quality time with my family?

Are there any areas of un-forgiveness with a family member?
