Manswers

I am so excited about this coming Sunday.  As we dive into week 2 of our Battle of the Sexes sermon series, we will take a specific look at the issues men are facing.  One of the key temptations of men in the church is the feeling that they have to be nice, kind and gentle guys.  While those characteristics are good at times, I believe that God wants men to be men.  I think we were born with a natural energy and even aggression and if Christian men ever find a way to channel that aggression into Kingdom work then the enemy should look out.  (Matthew 11:12)

One of the first ways to overcoming this temptation is to realize that Jesus was no sissy.  I’ve never met a construction worker with a limp wrist and I don’t think Jesus had one either.  I think as a carpenter He had a strong back and some tough hands.  I think we need to remember that it was Jesus that went off in the temple flippin’ over tables and runnin’ people out with a whip that he had made.  It was Jesus who confronted the religious rulers of his day with such audacity that they wanted to kill Him because of how mad He made them.  Why has the church turned Jesus into a femenine man?

Here is a quote for you to chew on for the next few days.

In the words of Dorothy Sayers: “To do them justice, the people who crucified Jesus did not do so because he was a bore. Quite the contrary; he was too dynamic to be safe. It is has been left for later generations to muffle up that shattering personality and surround him with an atmosphere of tedium. We have declawed the Lion of Judah and made him a housecat for pale priests and pious old ladies.”

Don’t miss this week.  It’s gonna be awesome!
